Bulgaria To The Aid Of UK Children's Programmes

Uncle Bulgaria, the wise old TV character from the Wombles whose name incidentally was chosen by picking a country at random, is launching a campaign to bring back quality children's programmes on UK TV. Obvioully no real person or politician has the resolve to do anything, which is what they should have done years ago!!

To little too late I'm just glad I was a kid when the original BBC's (Give us your milk bottle tops) Blue Peter (John Noakes and Co competed with ITV's (give us you money) Magpie, Crackerjack (It's Friday 5 to 5), Playschool and Take Hart at the centre of a children TV slots from 16:00 - 18:00 only!

Nothing really to do with Bulgaria other than the name of a material made fictional character with name, but it gives me a change to about what I have left behind in the UK.

Gloria - Bulgaria's Original Pop Folk Diva

Popfolk or chalga is everywhere in Bulgaria, you either love it or hate it. I love it, but not 24 hours a day. Gloria is one of the original Pop Folk Divas and one of my favourite performers. She's getting on a bit now, but retains her quality voice. This video clip is a song that was a recent hit and still very popular for requests. It is more in the style of a ballard and called, "If they do the morning."

She was one of the judges on Bulgarian Televisions 'Music Idol' last year.

Wage Increases in Bulgaria

I really don't know where they get these figures from. Everyone I know here has either lost their job or been asked to take a pay cut with the recession kicked in,. I think this is just a publicity stunt to encourage confidence in the Bulgarian business world. In Bulgaria many wages on paper are fabricated anyway,. Figures aren't true anyway. When I worked here for a Bulgarian company, I got one wage packet in my hand, but on paper it said something competely different. (No further comment!)

A report by Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute said the average monthly wages and salaries grew 2.7% sequentially in the first quarter to 563 levs from 548 levs in the fourth quarter. A year earlier, in the first quarter, the wages and salaries stood at 484 levs. The highest increase in wages and salaries of 14.5% was in wholesale and retail trade, followed by a 10.1% rise in construction. At the same time, salaries and wages dropped 10.9% in public administration and defense, and fell 6.5% in education. Year-on-year, the average wages and salaries increased 16.3% in the first quarter. Wages and salaries increased the most in the utilities sector, by 31.9%, followed by a 28.2% rise in health and social work activities. Luchezar Matev, Bulgaria's Ambassador Gets Award

Obviously His Excellency Dr Luchezar is doing a good job in London as his role of Ambassador and can now have the right to own land in the UK unlike UK Nationals in Bulgaria who can't.

He now stands in the archives alongside Margaret Thatcher who also had the award bestowed upon her, but then I certainly have more respect for Dr. Metev than for Thatcher.

Dr Luchezar Matev, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in London, was honored with the Freedom of the City of London, sources from Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry told the Standart. The granting of the Freedom of the City of London is one of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies still in existence today. It is bestowed to public persons for their significant contribution to the English society. The medieval term 'freeman' meant someone who was not the property of a feudal lord, but enjoyed privileges such as the right to earn money and own land. It is believed that the first Freedom was presented in 1237. Mr. Matev is one of the four foreign ambassadors to the UK, presented with the high honour. Another Rock And Roll In Bulgaria's Tundzha

It was thunder I though I heard outside last night as we sat in our Yambol house watching a Bulgarian comedy sketch on TV. No rain clouds where seen and a mystery. No longer though, it was another earthquake.

It only last Friday that I experienced an earthquake in the village of Skalitsa. Another slightly more powerful earthquake now hit five days later, I just hope no damage has been done to my farmhouse when I get back there on Saturday.

Two light quakes have been felt within five days in Bulgaria's South-East Tundja Municipality, Yambol district. A light earthquake measuring 2,8 on the Richter scale was registered Tuesday evening around 9.50 pm in Bulgaria's South-East Tundja Municipality, Yambol district. There were no immediate reports of injuries and damages. The epicenter of the quake was registered some 250 kilometers east of Sofia.
