Bulgaria's Berbatov Was Kidnapped By The Mafia

Mention Bulgaria and Mafia comes into the equation each time. Here is another story that brings it home that Mafia is a reality in Bulgaria and affects everyone directly to indirectly. Somehow though I think that Berbatov is using this more for publicity than anything else. He is worth much more now if he was kidnapped!

Dimitar Berbatov has revealed how he was kidnapped by a Bulgarian gangster when he was just 18 years of age.

The gangster in question was Georgi Iliev who was shot and killed at a restaurant on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast , by a suspected sniper.

Iliev once owned Lokomotiv Plovdiv and was alleged to be an organized crime boss, and so his murder was suspected to be part of an ongoing turf war between rival criminal gangs.

Speaking to the times about the ordeal Berbatov said “That’s true, It was a horrific ordeal but a long time ago now. That was a time back then, you know.”
Naturally Iliev is unable to refute these claims now that he is dead.
